Take some time today to visit the Antique Farm and Tractor Show at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St., Crown Point. Sponsored by the South Lake County Agricultural Historical Society Inc., gates open at 8:30 a.m., with a flag ceremony at 8:45 and activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Enjoy tractor pulls, a petting zoo, toy show, model trains, a tractor parade, sawmills and a shingle mill, threshing and baling, corn shredding and shelling, and don’t forget the food. Along with breakfast, stop in at the pie kitchen for a piece of homemade pie and coffee.
John Deere farm and garden tractors, and small engines, are featured this year.
Admission is $5, but children 15 and younger are admitted free with an adult. Parking is free.

Symphony on the Lawn
This is the 14th year for the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra's Symphony on the Lawn in Crown Point.
Enjoy an evening under the stars listening to the orchestra under the direction of Kirk Muspratt, as they perform outdoors at 7:30p.m. July 27 at St. Anthony Home, South Main Street and Franciscan Drive.
Molly the Trolley will shuttle concertgoers from the Crown Point High School parking lot to the nearby concert site.
Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and a picnic dinner or evening munchies. This free concert is brought to our city by the Crown Point Community Foundation, City of Crown Point, Franciscan Alliance St. Anthony Health and St. Anthony Auxiliary, the Crown Point Lions Club, Crown Point Rotary Club, Tri Kappa and Peoples Bank. Rain location is the Crown Point High School Auditorium, 1500 S. Main St.
Gala opens season
Mark your calendars for the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra’s Gala on Sept. 20. This year’s theme is Cirque De La Symphonie from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Celebrity Ballroom at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza, Merrillville. The 2013-14 season opening concert will be held at 8 the Star Plaza Theater.

Congratulations to Marlene York, who recently became a U.S. citizen. Originally from Bogota, Colombia, she moved to Northwest Indiana with her husband from Milwaukee, Wisc., and attends the Adult Learning Center in Crown Point to master the English language.
The learning center at 928B Lake View Square Shopping Center, serves those who want to earn a GED, study English as a second Language or brush up on academics.
