CROWN POINT | Lake County officials are slated to release a study early Monday analyzing county government's spending patterns during the last five years.

Larry Blanchard, an administrative aide to the Board of Lake County Commissioners and a former county councilman, said he has looked at spending patterns since 2007 involved in providing the core services the public expects from county government.

He said his study will include spending by the county sheriff, courts, prosecutor, plan commission, surveyor, recorder, auditor, treasurer, weights and measures, highway and other major departments.

Blanchard said he will explain how changes in state law have affected spending and compare Lake's spending with that of other counties.

County government is in the midst of a financial crisis brought on by declining tax revenues and escalating costs of running the county jail, which is under the scrutiny of the U.S. Department of Justice for substandard health care for jail inmates.
