HAITI FUNDRAISER | Griffith

Aurelio's Pizza, 112 E. Ridge Road, will contribute 20 percent of its dine-in, carry out and delivery sales to the American Red Cross on Feb. 2. Aurelio's will also offer double points to their Repeat Rewards loyalty customers on that day.

COMMUNITY MEETING | Hammond

The East Side Community Council is a newly formed group working to create programs in East Hammond that will keep youth engaged in positive activities. Their next meeting for both adults and youth is at 6 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Ophelia Steen Center, 5927 Columbia Ave.

SPAGHETTI DINNER | Highland

The Highland High School student council is hosting a spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5 to benefit the Castillo family. Tickets are $5 for students, $7 for adults and $20 for a family. Tickets are available at the door. Highland High School is at 9135 Erie St.

FISH 'N' MORE | Schererville

Descent of the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church, 545 E. 77th Ave., will offer fish 'n' more Fridays through Lent. Pollock, shrimp, tilapia, catfish, chicken strips, cabbage rolls, haluski and pierogi, potato pancakes and pizza puffs are served. Dinners are served with fries or haluski (cabbage and noodles), cole slaw, bread, butter and coffee. Soda, bottled water, strudel and nut rolls are available for sale. Beer and wine also for sale.

PERFORMANCE | Gary

The African American Achievers Youth Corps. Inc. and Drama Family present the play "Wrong Person, Wrong Place, Wrong Time," at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 in The Glen Theatre, 20 W. Ridge Road. Tickets for the event are $15 and may be purchased at Beautiful Things, 3570 Village Court or U.S. Cellular, 1021 Broadway. Cost at the door is $20. Tickets are $10 each for groups of 10 or more.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST | Griffith

The chorale group at Griffith High School, 600 N. Wiggs St., hosts its annual pancake breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 6. Breakfast includes pancakes, bacon, sausage, orange juice, coffee and cinnamon rolls for $5. The fundraiser supports the group's trip to San Diego.

DADDY-DAUGHTER DATE NIGHT | Munster

Munster Parks & Recreation will be hosting their annual Daddy Daughter Date Night for dads and their little sweetheart(s) from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 6 at Wilbur Wright Middle School, 8650 Columbia Ave. Dinner, dancing, music, punch and sweet treats will fill the evening. The fee is $45 for residents and $55 for nonresidents per couple and $10 each additional daughter. The dance is for girls ages 5 and older.

PLAY LITTLE LEAGUE | Lake Station

Registration for the combined Lake Station-Hobart Township Little League will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 6, 13 and 20, and from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 9, 11, 16 and 19 at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Station, 4700 Central Ave. Parent or guardian must bring a state ID, children's birth certificates and proof of residency. Fees can be paid by cash, check, credit or debit card. After these dates, a late sign-up fee will be assessed.

SWEETHEART DANCE | Highland

North Township Trustee Frank J. Mrvan hosts a sweetheart dance from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Wicker Memorial Park clubhouse, Indianapolis Boulevard and Ridge Road. Boys and girls ages 4 to 12 can bring their "special sweetheart" moms, dads, uncles, aunts and grandparents. Admission is $3 for individual or $5 for couples. Music by DJ Manuel.

BLOOD DRIVE | Highland

Heartland Blood services will host a blood drive from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 6 at New Life Church, Ridge Road and Fifth Street. All donors will be entered into a drawing for a gas card. A pancake breakfast will also be taking place that morning from 7:30 to 10 a.m. benefitting the Cadets boys group, donations accepted.

PARENTING CLASS | Highland

Mental Health America of Lake County is offering Systematic Training for Effective Parenting classes to all residents of Northwest Indiana. The class takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 6 at Mental Health America, 9722 Parkway Drive. Registration requested.

CITIZENSHIP/ENGLISH CLASSES | Hammond

A winter-spring session of citizenship and English literacy classes will begin Feb. 6. The School City of Hammond Adult Education Department in partnership with the Hammond Hispanic Community Committee

presents the classes. Classes are from 9 a.m. to noon for 13 Saturdays at Greater Hammond

Community Services, 824 Hoffman St. Class focus is on English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and on study to pass the test for U.S. citizenship. Spanish-speaking adults and others whose primary language is not English are encouraged to attend. The class session is free and limited to 30 students. Adults 18 and older who live in Indiana are eligible. Registration required.

STAGE AUDITIONS | Hobart

Ross Music Theatre and M & M Productions will hold another audition date for its Winter Children's Camp show, "How to Eat Like a Child," at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at Center Stage Studio Theatre, 227 Center St. Performances are now scheduled for March 20 and 21. There are singing and nonsinging roles available. Winter theatre camp, geared to ages 8 to 15, will teach stage direction, stage presence, stage terms, blocking and all that is involved in putting on a show as they prepare the production. No need to bring music or prepare anything for the audition. There is no cost for the camp, but tickets to the performance are $7.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST | Griffith

Griffith Masonic Lodge will host an all-you-can-eat pancake and French toast breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Feb. 7 at the lodge, 209 N. Broad St. Breakfast will include pancakes, made the original way, French toast, sausage links, fruit cups, coffee, tea, orange juice and milk. The cost is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3.50 for children under 12.

LANDSCAPING SEMINAR | Hobart

Northwestern Indiana Nursery and Landscape Association will host its annual educational seminar from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Feb. 8 at Avalon Manor Banquet Center, 3550 E. U.S. 30. The winter seminar and continuing certification hours educational class have been combined into one event, providing a very affordable and enlightening day. Both the certification hours and continuing education credits are approved. Cost is $65 for members and $95 for nonmembers. Lunch will be provided.

MUSIC PROGRAM | Gary

Students at Thea Bowman Leadership Academy Elementary School will present a free music program, "Cool Notes on a Warm Day," on Feb. 10. Students in kindergarten through the third grade will perform at 8:30 a.m. Students in the fourth through sixth grades will perform at 9:45 a.m. Both performances will be held in the elementary gymnasium, 975 W. 6th Ave.

BUSINESSWOMEN MEET | Schererville

The Indinios Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at KowLoon Chinese Restaurant, 730 E. Lincoln Highway. The guest speaker will be a representative from the Merrillville chapter of the American Culture Society speaking on cervical cancer. There will also be information provided from the American Heart Association regarding women's health issues. All are welcome to join us.

MUSICAL AUDITIONS | Hammond

Auditions for the spring musical, a world premiere of "Children of the Earth" by John Lisbon Wood, music by Steve Shafer, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 10 and 11 in YJean Chambers Hall, third floor of Student Union Library Building at Purdue University Calumet, north of 173rd Street between Kennedy Avenue and Indianapolis Boulevard. There are five parts for men, three for women, and one for a girl, with four chorus members required. Auditioners should bring sheet music for a prepared song, be able to learn and perform a few short dance moves, and be able to perform a short monologue. The show is a family-friendly, environmental fable about a group of animals who gather to stop the "taking creatures" from burning the planet. Performances are scheduled for 5 p.m. April 17 and April 24 and 3 p.m. April 18 and April 25.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY | Highland

The Puerto Rican Parade and Cultural Organization of Northwest Indiana Inc. presents a scholarship opportunity. Applications should be submitted by Feb. 10. ESSAY CONTEST | Gary

The deadline is Feb. 10 for the essay contest "Pushing Against the Odds," sponsored by the Gary Public Library for its 40th annual African-American History Month program. The program takes place at 3 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Genesis Convention Center, Fifth Avenue and Broadway. Special guest speaker will be author/poet, Sapphire. Sapphire is the author of the New York Times best-seller "Push," which was adapted to the big screen in 2009 as the film "Precious," produced by Oprah Winfrey and Lee Daniels. In conjunction with the author's visit, students in fifth through 12th grade are invited to participate in the essay contest. Information is available at all library units. Prizes will be awarded in three categories.
