CROWN POINT | Alcohol was a factor in a crash that killed an 18-year-old Dyer resident early Saturday, police said.

Michaelangelo Sanchez was killed in the single-vehicle crash at 1:19 a.m. near the 7400 block of West 101st Avenue, just west of Crown Point, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

A Lexus was traveling west on 101st and apparently missed a curve. It left the road to the south and traveled along a ditch, hit several small trees and turned around before stopping, police said.

Sanchez was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant, 19-year-old Luis Norman, of St. John, was transported to Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Crown Point, according to police.

No other information was available Saturday afternoon as police continued to investigate the crash.
