ST. JOHN | Lake Central High School Centralettes Varsity dance team captured the prestigious title of National Grand Champions at the National Dance Alliance Nationals held in Orlando earlier this month.

Displaying their precision timing and teamwork at the Hard Rock Live Arena at Universal Studios, the Centralettes boasted the highest point total overall, earning them the title, trophy, banner, and prized black jackets.

In addition, Lake Central earned first place in Large Varsity Jazz, Best in Jazz (all divisions), Technical Excellence Award, and third place in Large Varsity Hip-Hop competition. The team was also recognized for Outstanding Sportsmanship.

The Centralettes returned to compete at the state finals of the Indiana High School Dance Team Association, earning its 17th consecutive state championship.

The Varsity team placed first in Jazz and Hip Hop at state, held in the 10,000-seat New Castle High School field house. The Junior Varsity team also snared first in both Jazz and Hip Hop.

Other victories included first place in Small Ensemble, second place in Duet and second place in Large Ensemble.

This year's Varsity team members are Anastasia Amanatidis, Rosie Arellano, Chelsey Banasiak, Jade Blessing, Crysta Crothers, Kristina Dombovic, Michelle Gentz, Nicole Griffin, Kaylin Guglielmo, Maddie Hiemstra, Alyssa Kovich, Tiffany Marquiss, Emilie Middleton, Catrina Penna, Frances Pollaro, Jenee Porter, Ashley Roberts, Lauren Skertich and Allie Tribble.

The 2010-11 Junior Varsity team includes Jenna Blessing, Julia Demma, Missy Dobos, Daniella Dombovic, Abbie Emmett, Christine Foreman, Millie Hiestand, Caitlyn Hunt, Tari Markowski, Lindsay McClain, Marlo Owczarzak, Shannon Putnam, Meghan Tar, Celine Tucker, Katie Vega and Deja Washington.

Both teams are under the leadership of Director Kevin Mathis.
