MUNSTER | Members of the Munster, Highland and Dyer police departments, and the Munster Fire Department, pitched, batted and raced around the bases last month in a charity softball event organized by Munster's Choice Community Council at Munster Community Park.
Four softball games, an American Red Cross blood drive, music, mascots, door prizes, and more raised $3,000 for the Cancer Resource Centre, almost doubling last year's total for the Munster facility that provides programming and support for area cancer patients and their families.
The Dyer Police Department took home the championship and was presented with the tournament's traveling trophy. A list of this year's sponsors, along with team photos, are available at www.munster.org/police.
"Each of the participating departments would like to thank the many people who sponsored or participated in this year's event to help raise money for a great cause," said Officer James Ghrist of the MPD.
Munster's Choice Community Council is an open forum for any Munster resident who would like to help plan positive programs aimed at drug, violence, or gang prevention or which promote police and community partnerships.
