ST. JOHN | A 17-year-old Schererville boy was arrested Wednesday after police found a knife on him following an argument at Lake Central High School, police said.

An argument between two male students erupted at 9:33 a.m. in a classroom, St. John Police Chief Fred Frego said. The fight was broken up by a teacher, who was not named in a police report.

“One of the students said he was threatened with a knife during the argument, but never saw a knife,” Frego said.

Police found a 3-inch folding knife on the 17-year-old, he said.

The boy was arrested on a charge of possession of a knife on school property and released to his father, Frego said. The boy will appear in Lake County juvenile court. A court date hasn’t been set, Frego said.
