DYER | A Dyer man was killed early Sunday when a vehicle struck his motorcycle and left the scene.
The victim, Daniel Shively, 24, was knocked off his motorcycle and pronounced dead from blunt force trauma at the intersection of Calumet Avenue and Harrison Place in Dyer, according to the Lake County coroner's office.
Lake County traffic reconstruction team officers were called to the scene by Dyer police about 3:30 a.m.
According to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Department, a black or gray Toyota or Scion is believed to have struck Shively's motorcycle before fleeing south on Calumet Avenue.
The vehicle has front-end damage, is missing its grille and part of the front bumper, and has radiator damage, police said.
