DYER | The Dyer Chamber of Commerce Corn Roast will be back and bigger than ever in 2013.
Chamber President Denise Wiles was at the May Town Council meeting to tell officials the chamber has decided to not only continue to sponsor the corn roast but to expand it to two days.
In 2012, when the chamber contemplated discontinuing its sponsorship, the council discussed whether the 5-year-old event could continue by being combined with another late-summer event, such as National Night Out.
However, the chamber has recommitted to the roast and to expanding its offerings, Wiles said. The roast will be Aug. 9 and 10 at Northgate Park.
Hours will be 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 9 and 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 10. The corn roast traditionally has included food and beverages and all-you-can-eat corn. This year a beer garden will be offered.
Town Council President Joe Cinko said the lack of a beer garden was the one concern he always heard aired about the corn roast.
“The biggest complaint was that you could not purchase an alcoholic beverage,” he said.
