DYER | The Town Council on Thursday narrowly approved the appointment of a council member to the 2013 Redevelopment Commission.
Councilwoman Mary Tanis was appointed to the Redevelopment Commission by a 3-2 vote during a special year-end meeting.
Councilwoman Debbie Astor had brought up the idea earlier this fall.
“I wanted the council to take over (the Redevelopment Commission),” she said, before making the motion of Thursday.
Astor and Tanis, who seconded the motion, voted with Joe Cinko to approve the appointment.
Councilmembers Jeff Dekker and Connee Trepton voted in opposition.
The council also approved the remaining slate of 2013 boards and commission appointments during the meeting.
Longtime Stormwater Board member Ron Hunter was re-appointed, as was Water Board member Jeff Zendzian.
Sanitary Board Vice President Ed Tilton was reappointed.
The council reappointed Mike Kapitan and named newcomer Dane Huebner to the Park Board.
Richard Moore and John Eagan were named to the Police Commission. Randy DeSalvo and Todd Jefferson were named to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The remaining four redevelopment commissioners, Ed Nowak, Bill Wilson, Jethroe Smith and Bob Delano, also were appointed.
The council deferred action on appointments to the Recycling and Economic Development commissions.
In other action, Cinko was elected Town Council president for 2013. Astor was elected vice president.
