DYER | The Town Council has approved conducting a Hometown Celebration this year.
The council gave Rick Eberly, the town administrator, the verbal go-ahead to begin planning for the festival. The matter was put to a voice vote at February's council meeting.
Hometown Celebration is held every fall in the Jewel-Osco parking lot. The event started as a way to celebrate the opening of the Calumet Avenue extension from Main Street to U.S. 30.
Council members have questioned whether the town could afford Hometown Celebration, because public works employees and police officers work on the clock at the festival.
However, Eberly said the gala has been profitable since its beginning.
