DYER | The Dyer Historical Society took third place for its entry in the annual Festival of Trees in Munster.
The 24th annual Festival of Trees, a fundraising event, was sponsored by the Women’s Association of the Northwest Indiana Symphony at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster.
Some 25 groups and organizations were invited to participate in the contest, the culmination of which was a Dec. 12 luncheon and performance by coloratura soprano Holly Flack.
Town employee Dawn Nelson spearheaded the effort, Clerk-Treasurer Pat Hawrot said.
The Historical Society bought the tree and its ornaments, its theme being “Old Time Dyer.” Nelson came up with the idea for the theme, making ornaments out of the Historical Society’s historical cards.
Nelson antiqued them and put them in frames, after which they were hung on the tree as decorations.
Dyer’s tree and others will be on display at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts through Jan. 2.
