DYER | The town is looking for a name for the new street in Central Park, and so far, it looks like the name will honor the park.
The Park Board has already mentioned the name “Central Avenue” for the road, Town Attorney Bill Enslen said.
Council members also liked the name "Central Park Boulevard." They also agreed that the name should reflect the park.
Earlier this year, the town contracted to build a road leading from Calumet Avenue into the park. The Redevelopment Commission and and the Park Board are sharing the cost.
The road dead ends at a parking lot the Park Board is also constructing. The project is meant to open the south side and central area of the park to users; the north side is already under construction as ball fields.
The road is also part of an agreement with the property owner on whose land the road crosses. In exchange for access to the land on the west side of Calumet, so that Dyer could build an access road to its public works building, the town also agreed to build a road from the east side of Calumet.
The road from Calumet Avenue’s east side will likely be given the same name, officials said.
