CROWN POINT | A Dyer man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for his role in a DUI death earlier this year.
Anthony Vanderheyden, 36, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing death while operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of at least 0.15, according to a news release issued Thursday.
Vanderheyden was drunk and driving at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the back of the victim's car, officials said. Vanderheyden was taken into custody within an hour after fleeing the scene, officials said.
