DYER | The Dyer Town Council has approved hiring a police officer.

The new hire will replace a veteran officer, Sgt. David Swinford, who recently retired, officials said. Swinford had been a Dyer officer for 18 years.

The council approved the request, made by Police Chief Davidf Hein, at this month's regular meeting.
