Dyer reviews road projects
DYER | The utility boards and the Town Council are reviewing a list of proposed road projects and the funding required to complete them.
The council and all three utility boards — Water, Sanitary and Stormwater — are looking at a "one-dig" approach for certain road projects this year.
If road construction and infrastructure replacement are done simultaneously, instead of in phases, the town will save money and residents will suffer less inconvenience, officials said.
At the top of the list is Cherry Hill Road from Hart Street to Hickory Drive. The projected cost of the project, including infrastructure replacement, is $1.23 million.
A report by town consultant Nies Engineering also identified the following streets as in need of infrastructure work and total reconstruction: Sycamore Drive, Harrison Avenue from Edmond Drive to 215th Street, 211th Street, 212th Place, Cambridge Lane, Cottonwood Drive, Red Oak Drive, Dogwood Drive, Aspen Drive, Potomac Drive and Madison Avenue, north of 213th Street.
The following streets will need stormwater work and total street work reconstruction, but do not require the replacement of water and sanitary lines: James Drive, Blaney Drive, Roy Street, Lakewood Drive, Forest Park Drive, Schmidt Drive and South Street.
Engineers also identified Kings Drive and Kings Court as possibly in need of some stormwater work and street reconstruction. Catherine Drive east of Great Lakes is also a candidate for road reconstruction.
The parking lot at 213th Street and Calumet Avenue, near the fire station, is in need of spot repairs. Patching is required near the recycling area along the south side of the lot, the engineers' report said.
The total cost of all street-related work would be $2.29 million, the report said. The town has $1.9 million in bonding power plus cash on hand, but final decisions will depend on how much the utility boards are able to participate, officials said.
