DYER | The town is following in the footsteps of other communities by approving a salvage metals ordinance.
The ordinance places new regulations on pawnbrokers, cash for gold establishments and other businesses that buy and sell salvaged metals.
The new rules will require, among other things, that the seller present identification and that the item itself be photographed.
Town officials said these safeguards are being put in place in the event a seller might present stolen material. Photographs, identification and records will make it easier for police to investigate, officials said.
