DYER | The town can afford to absorb a small increase in solid waste fees this year.

Garbage/recycling fees are going up 45 cents per month per household, Town Council members learned at their study session in March.

The town already subsidizes garbage fees by more than $11 and can take on this year's increase, Clerk-Treasurer Pat Hawrot said.

Residents currently pay $4.92 as their share of the monthly fees.

Town Council members also decided to get ahead of the situation by seeking proposals for a new garbage contract because the current one is set to expire.
