DYER | The family of a fallen Dyer soldier has received a copy of special resolution passed in his honor.
State Rep. Hal Slager, R-Schererville, presented the family of Staff Sgt. David Nowaczyk with a copy of the resolution, passed last month by the Indiana State House of Representatives.
Nowaczyk, a Lake Central High School graduate and Dyer native, was killed in Afghanistan April 15, 2012, when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. He left behind a wife, two children and an extended family.
His family has been raising money and working with the Dyer Park Board to build a memorial in one of the town parks.
Family members said they envision life-size statues of a soldier and a little girl holding hands.
The Nowaczyk family will have a booth at next month’s Dyer Summerfest. A concert benefiting the SSG David Nowaczyk Memorial Fund will be held at 7:30 p.m. July 13 at Pick-Up' Bar-n-Grill, 21000 Torrence Ave., Lynwood. The cost is a $7 donation.
A golf outing benefiting the fund will be held July 28, at River Pointe Country Club, 6700 Country Club Road, Hobart. There will be a noon registration and lunch, 1 p.m. shotgun start and dinner at 6. The $90 entry fee includes greens fee and cart, lunch with one ticket for soda, water or coffee, and dinner and two drink tickers for domestic beer, soda or Gatorade.
For more information on the golf outing, contact Patti Nowaczyk at (219) 213-1056, or at email@example.com.
