DYER | A man who allegedly robbed a Dyer gas station on U.S. 30 while brandishing a large knife early Tuesday is still at large after leading police on a brief car chase before fleeing on foot.
According to Detective Cmdr. Joe Cinko, at 1:48 a.m. the man entered the Exxon/Mobil gas station at 501 Joliet St. (U.S. 30) and showed the clerk a large knife. The man told the clerk to give him everything in the cash register.
After getting the money, the man fled on foot. The clerk was not injured, Cinko said.
A Dyer police officer saw a vehicle driving away from the crime scene and tried to stop the vehicle as it sped away. After a short pursuit, the driver crashed the vehicle near 215th Street and Sheffield Avenue.
The driver fled on foot and was not able to be located by officers.
Cinko said the suspect is known to police and charges are expected to be filed on Thursday.
