ST. JOHN | Kindergarten enrollment for the 2013-14 school year will be held at all six Lake Central School Corp. elementary schools from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. March 13 and 14. To be eligible for kindergarten this fall, a child must be 5 on or before Aug. 1 and legally reside within the Lake Central School Corp. boundaries.
Prospective kindergarten students must accompany their parents to enrollment. At that time, parents must present the legal (not hospital) birth certificate of the child, their valid Indiana Drivers License or State ID with current address, two proofs of residency, (i.e., home ownership papers or rental agreement and one current utility bill verifying address), and in the case of a divorce or separation, a copy of the custody papers. The child will be given a general kindergarten screening.
Prior to the first day of school, parents must provide the school corporation with written proof that their child has been immunized against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, polio and varicella.
The Lake County Health Department offers free immunizations to all residents at 2900 W. 93rd Ave., Crown Point. The clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday If the child has had shots previously, bring the Shot Record to the clinic. No vaccinations will be given to those who have coverage under their insurance policy. Call the clinic at (219) 755-3658 with any questions.

A Pre-Enrollment Informational Meeting for parents of incoming kindergartners will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Lake Central Freshmen Center LGI Room, 8400 U.S. 41, St. John.
The purpose of this meeting is to highlight various aspects of the upcoming enrollment day and Lake Central kindergarten programs. Questions regarding this meeting can be directed to the local schools.
