ST. JOHN | Artistic talent finds many expressions — a fact demonstrated by Lake Central High School students during contests this school year.

The Lake Central School Board recently recognized 15 students whose artwork took prizes at four regional art competitions.

Seniors who were honored include:

• Lindsay McClain, ceramic sgraffito vase, Best of Show for Three Dimension Artwork, South Suburban College art show

• Nicole Vetroczky, graphite still life, honorable mention (second place) for Two Dimensional Artwork, South Suburban College

• Tyler Marshall, elongated ceramic serpent vase, honorable mention (second place) and Best in High School awards for Three Dimensional Artwork, South Suburban College

• Nada Issa, ceramic vase, second place, Calumet College of St. Joseph High School Art Exhibit

• Brianna Henderson, ceramic sculpture, DePirro Best Ceramic Award, Secondary School Showcase at Brauer Museum of Art, Valparaiso University

• Justin Wippo, “The Incomplete Man” in mixed media, honorable mention, South Shore Arts Tri-County Art Exhibit

Lake Central juniors who received recognition include:

• Jenna Resendiz, ink and wax portrait, Best of Show for Two Dimension Artwork, South Suburban College

• Kelly Massei, “Breaking Through” in colored pencil, third place, Calumet College of St. Joseph High School Art Exhibit, and the Award of Distinction at the South Shore Arts Tri-County Art Exhibit

• Hannah Pittman, ceramic sgraffito tile set, Coffee Creek Studio Art Award, Secondary Showcase at Brauer Museum of Art, Valparaiso University; Best of Show, South Shore Arts Tri-County Art Exhibit; and Medici Award for her “Free Your Dreams and Take Flight” ceramic torso at the South Shore event

• Socheata Ing, ceramic carved vase, Brauer Museum of Art Merit Award, Secondary School Showcase at Brauer Museum of Art, Valparaiso University

• Alexandra Wail, porcelain clay pierced vase, Award of Distinction, South Shore Arts Tri-County Art Exhibit

Sophomore Ugonna Nwannunu won the Anne Louise Beckman Award for her entry “Omalicha: Charcoal Portrait” at the South Shore Arts Tri-County Art Exhibit.

Four Lake Central High School art students also were recognized by the School Board for being juried entrants in the Secondary School Showcase at Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University. They are seniors Alivia Gallas for her ceramic sculpture/mixed media and Ashley Kloppenburg for her ceramic carved vase.

Wail was honored as a juried entrant in that art contest for her ceramic sculpture, as was junior Maria Elgendi for her ceramic sculpture.
