ST. JOHN | Lake Central High School students brought home several national awards from the Business Professionals of America National Conference last month, proving once again that Lake Central BPA is indeed a “Quality Chapter.”
Nineteen Lake Central students qualified for national competition in Information Technology, Business, and Marketing, and 13 were able to compete at the national conference in Orlando, Fla.
The 13 national qualifiers from Lake Central are: Brandon Kozel, Nick Biegel, Brandon Long, Brayen McCoy, Alyssa Portela, Arooj Mohammed, Suryz Vezhavendan, Andrew Ring, Andrew Sytsma, Rayten Rex, Brandon Evers, Meri Dodevska and Kevin Geiser.
Students winning national awards included Andrew Sytsma - second place in Visual Basic Programming; Nick Biegel, Brandon Long, and Kevin Geiser – 8th place in Web Application Team; Meri Dodevska - 10th place in Fundamentals of Word Processing; Andrew Sytsma – 12th place in C++ Programming; and Alyssa Portela – 12th place in Visual Basic Programming.
Surya Vezhavendan also earned an Ambassador Torch Award through his involvement with BPA, his school and the community.
The team’s advisor and Lake Central Business/Computer Science teacher Rita Chavez and her students once again put forth the effort to ensure that Lake Central BPA earned the coveted Quality Chapter award at the national conference, one of only three Indiana schools to achieve the distinction.
There were just over 5,600 high school competitors at nationals.
