DYER | Three pooches will be in the running to be named the Cutest Dog in Dyer during Summerfest.
The inaugural contest this summer is being sponsored by the Dyer Dog Park Committee, Dyer Foundation and Dyer Police Department and Animal Control.
Applications are currently being taken at Dyer Town Hall.
Three finalists will be brought before the public at 5 p.m. June 9 during Dyer Summerfest. Festival attendees will vote for their favorite, and the first-, second- and third-place dogs will win prizes.
“We’ve got a lot of interest so far,” said festival volunteer Jethroe Smith, who also is Dyer’s Redevelopment Commission president.
While he and other volunteers were handing out information in front of Walt’s Grocery recently, people were showing off photos of their dogs.
“Everybody’s dog is cute, and every dog is a winner,” Smith said.
However, festivalgoers will get the final word. First prize is a $50 gift card to Pet Supplies Plus. Second prize is a $25 gift card, and third is a $10 gift card.
All breeds and types are welcome, and entrants may submit by email. They should include a photo of the dog, the dog’s name and contact information. Photos also may be brought to the parks and recreation office in Town Hall before May 31. For more information, call (219) 865-2505 or email dyerdogpark@hotmail.com.
