DYER | The registration deadline is approaching for several programs offered by the parks department.
Several drawing classes are offered.
Grown-up & Me is a class for those 2-1/2 to 4 with a parent or adult.
It uses the Young Rembrants technique. It's a hands-on program that also teaches specific skills that help develop a preschool child’s fine motor skills at home.
The class meets from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Mondays at Dyer Town Hall activity room. Classes start Feb. 25 and run through March 25.
The fee is $40 for Dyer residents and $44 for nonresidents.
Young at Heart Drawing Class for ages 50 and up features innovative, guided instruction, covering topics everyone can relate to. The step-by-step method uses pencils, colored pencils, markers and pastels. This class is designed for men and women and no experience is necessary. The class is from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays at Dyer Town Hall's Activity Room A beginning Feb. 25 and running through March 25. The fee for the class is $40 for Dyer residents and $44 for nonresidents.
Elementary cartooning, for those 6 to 12 years old, is offered from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays beginning Feb. 22 through March 22 at Dyer Town Hall meeting room.
It uses the Young Rembrants elementary program.
A Knitting for Kids class for those 8 to 15 year old is open to boys and girls.
Classes are from 5 to 6 p.m. Fridays, beginning Feb. 22 through March 12 at the Dyer Town Hall Activity Room. Participants are required to bring in two size 8 knitting needles and a skein of knitted worsted yarn (no variegated or dark colors please). Items can be purchased at any craft store.
Parents are welcome to attend but must also be registered. The fee is $20 for Dyer residents and $22 for nonresidents.
A Sit-n-Knit class for those 16 and older is offered from 6 to 7 p.m. Fridays in the Dyer Town Hall Activity Room. The program starts Feb. 22 and runs through March 15.
Participants are required to bring two size 8 knitting needles and a skein of knitting worsted yarn (no variegated or dark colors please). Items can be purchased at any craft store.
The fee is $25 for Dyer residents and $27 for nonresidents.
Beginner guitar lessons for those 10 and older will be offered from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturdays at the Plum Creek Center, starting Feb. 23 and running through April 20. There is no class March 30.
Participants will learn the basic rudiments for playing the guitar. By the end of the seven-week session, they should be able to play basic chords and tune a guitar.
Each student must supply his own guitar, either acoustic or electric (without amplifier). Professional instruction is from H.G.S Music in Highland.
The fee for the class is $75 for Dyer residents and $80 for nonresidents.
