ST. JOHN | The Lake Central High School Marching Band, the Tribe of Pride, captured first place last month in a Bands of America Regional Tournament in Toledo, Ohio. The win in a field of 21 bands earned the band a spot in the Grand National Championship set for Nov. 14-16 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis following additional competition with its "A World of Her Creation" show at invitationals in Center Grove and Indianapolis, as well as the Indiana State School Music Association contest. The band, directed by Chris Harmon with contest design assistance from color guard director Allan Buzalski and teacher Dave Nelson, began preparing this year's competition show at June rehearsals, followed by summer band camp. Judging criteria includes the music, costumes, choreography and general effect, reflecting on how well the drill routine fits the music, Harmon said.
