STAMP SHOW | Highland
The Calumet Stamp Club annual stamp show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 13 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 14 at the Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. Admission is free. The show will feature exhibits of members' collections and 20 dealers who will offer a wide variety of stamps, covers, postcards and supplies to collectors. Food available.

ST. PATRICK'S DINNER | Hammond
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church youth will host a St. Patrick's dinner and bake sale at the church, 7227 Hohman Ave., from 5 to 7:30 p.m. March 13. Corned beef dinner is $10 or an alterntive sloppy joe or hot dog dinner is $8 and children 12 and under cost $4. Tickets available at the door. Funds raised will help the youth to attend 2010 Youth Gathering in New Orleans.

CAT SHOW | Portage
Dunes Cat Fanciers will be hosting the annual nonprofit Back to Back Championship and Household Pet Cat Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 13 and March 14 at Woodland Park in the Grand Oak Hall, 2100 Willowcreek Road. Dunes Cat Fanciers is part of the American Cat Fancies Association and has been bringing shows to Northwest Indiana since 1980. The show will host cats of 35 different breeds as well as household pets. Pure breed kittens will also be for sale. There will be vendors to sell toys, beds, and other cat-related items. Independent Cat Society and Friends Cat Shelter will be at the show to raise money for their shelters. Admission is $3.50 for adults ages 16 to 60, Children and seniors $2.50, and a family rate is $10.

HEALTHY KIDS DAY | Hobart
Hobart Family YMCA will host YMCA Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to noon March 13 at 601 W. 40 Place. The YMCA will provide resources to help educate grown-ups about making healthy choices for their families every day. A "Healthy Legs" program will be held at 2 p.m. March 13 at the Lake County Public Library's Hobart branch, 100 N. Main St., in conjunction with Deep Vein Thrombosis Awareness month. Dr. Luis Barajas of Decatur Vein Clinic in Hobart will discuss the more common and less serious conditions of venous insufficiency, including spider veins and varicose veins. He will perform a sample scan of a staff member's leg to demonstrate the simple diagnostic in-office mapping procedure that is normally conducted by medical providers. Refreshments will be provided. Culver’s of Schererville is offering a Give a Pint, Get a Pint certificate for a complimentary pint of frozen custard from Culver’s of Schererville for every pint of blood donated at an American Red Cross blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. A fine arts fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 13 at the Gary Area Career Center, 1800 E. 35th Ave. All Gary schools will participate in this event by displaying their best student art. ASTRONOMY DAY | Lowell
The Calumet Astronomical Society will have an open house from 7 to 10 p.m. March 13 at the Thomas Conway Observatory, 191st and Chase Street, just southeast of the Buckley Homestead's historic farm. Members of the Society will be on hand to answer questions about astronomy and to provide visitors with an opportunity to view planets, galaxies, and other celestial objects through binoculars and telescopes. Take a peek through the observatory's 16-inch telescope at Mars, the Red Planet. Dress appropriately for the cold evening weather. Inclement, cloudy weather conditions will cause the program to be cancelled without advance notice. KIDNEY WALK | Hobart
The inaugural Northwest Indiana Indoor Kidney Walk will be held March 13 at the J.C. Penney Court of Westfield Southlake Mall on U.S. 30. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10. Walkers will receive a T-shirt, goody bag and refreshments. Additional festivities include free risk health assessments, a health facts scavenger hunt with prizes, a visit from Billy the Kidney and more.
