EAST CHICAGO | On Tuesday, Nov. 26, the Salvation Army celebrated Thanksgiving.
Those we serve throughout the year were invited to share in a full Thanksgiving meal at the East Chicago Salvation Army. The delicious meal, which served about 500 guests, was hosted by Captains Daniel and Nivia Paredes.
Such an event was only made possible with the help of some incredible volunteers. The Ameristar Casino provided all of the food which included turkey, ham, dressing, potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, and of course, pie for all to enjoy.
Ameristar employees were on hand to serve the meals to all guests. Despite serving more than 500 meals, one of the servers noted that it didn’t feel like much work at all, because everyone worked very well together as a team.
Students from Ivy Tech assisted with serving food, drinks, and most importantly, cleaning up to make room for more guests. East Chicago Mayor Anthony Copeland, made a special appearance as a serving guest.
The giving hearts of a local business and community partners made this event a joy to be a part of and celebrated.
