EAST CHICAGO | Candace Florence, an East Chicago, IN native, is the daughter of the proud parents Byron “Duke” Florence and Janice Florence.
Candace has obtained both her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Public Health from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN; where she completed her thesis research on “The Reported Condom Use in First Year Students”, which is currently being submitted for publication. Candace is active in her community serving as an HIV/AIDS educator, tester, and counselor for the Wabash Valley.
Candace also served two years in the nationally recognized organization AmeriCorps as the Assistant Director for a non-profit agency. Candace is dedicated to improving minority health in America and plans to succeed at this by continuing her education at Indiana State University, in the Doctorate in Health Sciences (D.H.Sc) program.
Candace has a passion for improving the lives of minorities in regards to healthcare with a specific concentration in the female youth population. Candace has career goals of becoming a university professor and operating a non-profit organization geared at decreasing sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy rates in minority communities.
