EAST CHICAGO | Officials released surveillance photos Monday from an armed robbery Saturday at First Merchants Bank.
East Chicago Police Chief Mark Becker previously said a man about 25 to 30 years old jumped the teller's cage about 11 a.m. as a woman around the same age ordered all the customers and employees on the floor. Both were armed with handguns.
One of the photos released Monday by the FBI shows a man wearing a red sweatshirt and a mask walking past four people on the floor. The other suspect is seen walking in the frame wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, but her face is not visible.
Becker said the suspects left with an undisclosed amount of money and ran about two blocks before driving off in a Chevrolet Tahoe.
A customer followed the suspects and pointed them out to officers. Becker said the suspects fired shots at police twice while officers pursed them into Hammond.
Anyone with information about the bank robbery is asked to call the East Chicago Police Department at (219) 391-8446 or the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
