EAST CHICAGO | The name Dr. Leon Kendrick may bring instant appreciation and fondness by many in the East Chicago community, but to his students and former students, it's synonymous with inspiration.
Numerous students and alumni have been gathering for months to celebrate his retirement with one last original production 'Manifested Dreams: The Reunion.' In remembrance of his 36 years of teaching, the concert will be hosted at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 at East Chicago Central High School, 1100 West Columbus Drive.
"Dr. Kendrick is an inspiration," said Denzel Smith, student and show director. "He has meant so much to each of us that we wanted to celebrate his leadership and show how much we love him and everything he has done for us."
The concert will bring back generations of students to perform songs and dance routines that showcases their bond with their revered leader.
"I have been extremely blessed to have been around such wonderful students," said Dr. Kendrick. "It's bittersweet because although I am sad to be leaving my home after so many years, I welcome the opportunity to open my mind and heart to God's glorious plan for me."
Tickets for the show are available at E.C. Central and are $11 in advance and $13 at the door (based on availability). For more information, call 219-391-4100.
