HAMMOND | A convicted sex offender was sentenced Thursday to 17 years and 6 months in prison in a federal child pornography case.
Ramon D. Salinas Jr., of East Chicago, was sentenced Thursday and will be placed on supervised released for 25 years following his time in prison, according to court records.
He pleaded guilty in federal court in March 2012 to distributing child pornography, according to a plea agreement.
According to court records, the investigation began when undercover law enforcement officials used publicly available peer-to-peer sharing program where video files are downloaded depicting child pornography. The program led federal officials to Salinas.
Officials found more than 60 videos with titles indicating child pornography on Salinas' computer, according to court records.
Salinas was previously convicted in 2005 on a charge of possession of child pornography.
