EAST CHICAGO | Several agencies are combining forces to help East Chicago residents qualify for utility and rental assistance.

The assistance will be offered at an event set for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Salvation Army of East Chicago, 513 W. Chicago Ave.

Catholic Charities, the North Township trustee, Northwest Indiana Community Action Corp. and The Salvation Army will help residents process applications for NIPSCO hardship, Foundations of East Chicago Utilities, Federal Emergency Management Agency and North Township assistance.

Residents must make an appointment by calling (219) 398-2939.
