EAST CHICAGO | Two Gary men remained jailed Wednesday in connection with the armed robbery of an Indiana Harbor credit union, police said.
Michael Vinson, 27, and Arlandis Lewis, 19, face charges in Lake Superior Court of robbery, pointing a firearm and resisting law enforcement.
Witnesses at Tech Credit Union in the 2300 block of Columbus Drive told police the men, wearing masks, entered the bank at 1:49 p.m. on Friday and ordered employees and credit union members to the floor at gunpoint.
No one was injured as the men emptied out several tellers' cash drawers before leaving on foot, police said.
They then split up and began stripping off their outer layers of clothing, according to neighbors who advised police of their locations, and both men were apprehended within a few blocks of the bank, police said.
The money was recovered behind a home in the 4000 block of Pulaski Street after a resident there called police to report finding a black bag stuffed with cash in her yard.
Bond was set at $50,000 for Vinson and Lewis, and police said agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation was looking into the case.
