EAST CHICAGO | Mayor Anthony Copeland's Team Up and Clean Up initiative will kick off with a citywide adopt-a-block program beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The blitz is in collaboration with various churches, organizations, residents and schools.
Pastor Bill Swindle, of Freedom Church, contacted the city to join the effort. The targeted area Saturday includes the 4800, 4900 and 5000 blocks of Olcott Avenue and Indianapolis Boulevard. There will be a sign designating the adopted blocks.
