EAST CHICAGO | The East Chicago Education Foundation, Inc. will be honoring the 2013 East Chicago Teachers of Excellence with a dinner presentation tonight at Block Junior High School.
"We are very honored to recognize these distinguished leaders in our community," said Linda Randolph, East Chicago Education Foundation president. "They make a huge impact on their students' lives every single day and it is only fitting that they are honored for their commitment to education."
The honorees are chosen amongst their peers at their respective schools and recognized for their dedication in the classroom. This year, the School City of East Chicago's Board of Trustees helped sponsor the event.
"We have inspiring leaders that are very committed to education," said Jesse Gomez, East Chicago School Board of Trustees president. "It's an honor to celebrate them and their spirit of excellence. Our entire board is proud of these individuals being celebrated, especially for their love of education."
This year's honorees include Barb Berrones, McKinley Elementary; David Todd, Block Junior High; Helen Steinbach, Carrie Gosch; Jennifer Palkovich, Franklin Academy; Justin Stok, Washington Elementary; Katie Scott, E.C. Lighthouse Academy; Dr. Leon Kendrick, E.C. Central High School; Maria McWhorter, Lincoln Elementary; Michael Villanueva, Field Academy; Rose Klapkowski, St. Stanislaus, Vonetta Davis, Harrison Elementary and Amira Abunadi, E.C. Urban Enterprise.
