EAST CHICAGO | Three tractor-trailers parked near an East Chicago fabrication company were destroyed Friday by a fire believed to have been caused by an electrical cord.
Assistant Fire Chief Edmundo Muro said firefighters were called about 4 p.m. to the Marino Ware company at 4245 Railroad Avenue, where fire engulfed the three rigs.
The fire was contained within 30 minutes with no injuries, he said. The company's warehouse sustained slight damage to the fiberglass on the side of building near the fire.
The three rigs were all independently owned, he said.
Muro said the investigation is ongoing but the fire is believed to have begun in a rig hooked up to an electrical cord as it was being charged.
