EAST CHICAGO | One hundred East Chicago young adults, 18 to 22, will have the opportunity to participate in the 2013 Summer Youth Employment Program. The goal is to have youth learn and develop skills they need to be successful in the workplace.
This year, SYEP will be a seven-week program starting on June 24, 2013 ending Aug. 9. The positions available include lifeguards, pool supervisors, instructors, basket attendants, laborers and clerks. The hourly rate of pay will range from $7.25 to $9.
New this year, applications are available online at the City of East Chicago website www.eastchicago.com. Applications are also available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday at the Department of Human Resources in City Hall, 4525 Indianapolis Blvd.
Deadline for all applications and requested documents is Friday. Applications must be completed in entirety and have all necessary documents to be accepted in the lottery pool Monday. The Department of Human Resources will conduct a lottery of completed applications to determine which applicants will be offered jobs.
Applicants must be an East Chicago resident, 18 to 22 and enrolled or accepted to high school, G.E.D. program, adult education program, college/university, junior college, vocational or technical school.
All applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday to the City of East Chicago Department of Human Resources, 4525 Indianapolis Blvd., and must include copies of two forms of picture IDs, original and copy of State ID, or original and copy of valid driver’s license or valid learner’s permit. Applicants must also submit a copy of official grade records, original and copy of a current high school or college transcript, or original Verification of Enrollment for G.E.D./Adult Education Program
Applicants must submit a copy of proof of residency, including an original and copy of a utility bill (e.g., water, NIPSCO, cable) or rent receipt.
