EAST CHICAGO | Sallie Davis will be remembered for her spark and passion to do great things.
Davis, 66, was a member of the East Chicago Library Board and died Thursday of natural causes in her home, according to the Lake County coroner's office.
Mayor Anthony Copeland appointed Davis to the position of vice president of the board earlier this year because of her enthusiasm to make the library an asset to the city and a safe haven for children.
When Copeland spoke with Davis about a month ago, she was gushing about the new library board members and how great the library would be.
“She felt everything was going in the right direction,” he said. “She was just pleased.”
Davis had been involved with the library for some time before Copeland became mayor. He said he could remember seeing her there before he appointed her to be a board member.
“She didn't see the library as it is,” he said. “She saw into the future and saw it for what it could become.”
Not only was she relentless in doing the best for the city, she also loved life, he said.
“She was the type of person she would put her all in something,” he said.
