EAST CHICAGO | A man shot Sunday after interrupting a vehicle break-in is out of the hospital and recovering from his injuries, family members said Monday.
The 34-year-old Indiana Harbor resident told police he and his girlfriend had just left a South Side tavern at 2:15 a.m. when they saw two men tearing the speakers out of a friend's car parked on Railroad Avenue near 149th Street.
The men fled as the couple approached, but as the couple surveyed the damage the men drove by and one of them opened fire, police said. The men were in a dark blue Chevrolet Beretta, police said.
The Harbor man was drive to St. Catherine Hospital by his girlfriend, where he was treated for two gunshot wounds in each of his legs, police said.
Family members said Monday he was doing fine and is expected to make a full recovery.
