EC bank across from police station robbed at gunpoint
EAST CHICAGO | Area police are searching for two men who robbed an East Chicago bank at gunpoint across the street from the city's police station Tuesday morning.
East Chicago Police Sgt. Juan Beltran said the robbery occurred before 10 a.m. at Tech Credit Union, 2310 E. Columbus Drive. No one was injured in the robbery.
The two men wearing black ski masks that covered their mouths and noses, dark clothing, black hoodies and dark pants or jeans fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and may be traveling in a burgundy or maroon vehicle. Witnesses were unable to provide information about the offenders' direction of travel.
The dye pack in the bag containing the money given to the offenders did deploy, Beltran said. The men may be covered with red dye and burns as a result of the dye pack bursting and local hospitals have been notified to report anyone with those injuries to East Chicago police.
East Chicago police are asking anyone with information about the crime to contact Detective Terence Fife at (219) 391-8400.
