EAST CHICAGO | The city, Mayor Anthony Copeland, The Foundations of East Chicago and the Department of Redevelopment will sponsor a Showcasing East Chicago event Friday.
It runs from noon to 6 p.m. at the East Chicago Marina, 3301 Aldis St.
The city and Redevelopment Department are bringing new, all brick homes to the Washington Square area on the corner of Parrish Avenue and Columbus Drive. The two-story and tri-level homes are have three bedrooms, two-plus baths and attached two-car garages.
The Department of Redevelopment is offering homeownership incentives by providing down payment assistance ranging between $25,000 and $30,000.
As part of the program, participants are required to attend a homeowners workshop. It runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 8 at the East Chicago Department of Redevelopment building, 400 E. Chicago Ave.

The Department of Redevelopment also is offering homeowners a chance to become a part of the rehab program for homes that need repairs for problems causing health and safety conditions and code violations. The assistance covered by this program includes repairs to electrical systems; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; roof repairs; plumbing; and safety systems.
These are eligible grant funds per homeowner, and low interest loans are also available.
At the showcase, individuals will answer specific questions about the housing program.
