HAMMOND | The former director of the East Chicago Public Library won’t go on trial until June 10.
U.S. District Court in Hammond has granted Manny Montalvo’s request to delay the start of his trial on two counts of filing false tax returns. He is accused of overstating business expenses and medical and dental expenses totaling more than $80,000 stemming from tax returns filed in 2009 and 2010, according to court records.
Montalvo, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, requested the delay to review the “voluminous discovery” in the case, the motion for a continuance stated.
