EAST CHICAGO | A fight among teenagers in the West Calumet area landed a 12-year-old in jail Wednesday after she admitted stabbing another girl, police said.
Officers were called to the 5000 block of Aster Street on Tuesday night and found a 17-year-old nearby resident bleeding from a puncture wound to her biceps, police said.
Her alleged assailant told police she used a silver steak knife, which was recovered at the scene, to protect herself and her 15-year-old brother from the victim and her sisters when a fight broke out at the 151st Street Recreation Center.
The stabbing victim said she began to fight the 12-year-old's brother after he began to fight with her younger sister, police said.
The 12-year-old remained in the Lake County Juvenile Center Wednesday, and her mother was notified, police said.
