HAMMOND | The former director of the East Chicago Public Library pleaded not guilty Tuesday to filing false tax returns, federal court records show.
Manuel Montalvo was indicted earlier this month on two counts of filing false tax returns for 2009 and 2010. He is accused of overstating business expenses and medical and dental expenses totaling more than $80,000 over those two years, court records state.
Montalvo appeared Tuesday in federal court in Hammond for his arraignment. His jury trial is set for Dec. 10.
