EAST CHICAGO | Police arrested a homeless man this week who is accused of stabbing another man 10 times.
Anthony Almodovar, 48, was booked into the Lake County Jail and charged with aggravated battery and two counts of criminal confinement.
Almodovar was arrested Monday in an unrelated disturbance two blocks away from where the stabbing took place, East Chicago police said.
R. Vanderwerf, 61, of the 500 block of West 151st Street, was outside his apartment Feb. 27 when he saw Almodovar acting strange and asked him if he was OK.
Almodovar, who is known as Tony in the neighborhood, took out a knife and stabbed Vanderwerf 10 times, police said.
Vanderwerf was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He identified Almodovar this week as the person who stabbed him.
Police said it's still unclear why Almodovar stabbed Vanderwerf.
