EAST CHICAGO | Multiple fire crews responded to Ivy Tech Community College's East Chicago campus Thursday morning after smoke flowed through air vents there, officials said.
Firefighters responded just after 8:30 a.m. to the campus at 410 E. Columbus Drive.
A woman called 911 after seeing and smelling smoke coming from an air vent in her office, East Chicago Fire Department Chief Inspector Henry Ventura said.
Ventura said crews evacuated the building and discovered a broken belt on an air-conditioning unit on the roof that caused smoke and a smell of burning rubber.
No one was injured in the incident, he said.
Representatives from Ivy Tech said classes were in session as planned Thursday morning.
