CROWN POINT | Two East Chicago men were indicted this week by a Lake County grand jury in the 2013 fatal shooting of Sammy Flores, according to court records.
Miguel A. Payan, 36, and Hector Ramirez, 42, were indicted Friday on charges of murder and reckless homicide, a Class C felony, according to court records.
Flores, 32, of East Chicago, was shot in the head Nov. 20, 2013, at Luke Oil gas station at 5695 in East Chicago, police said. He died later that night at St. Catherine's Hospital, according to the Lake County coroner's office.
East Chicago police Chief Mark Becker previously said Flores was a customer at the gas station when he was shot. The motive of the shooting was not known, though Becker said at the time it didn't appear to involve a robbery.
Becker said late last year that detectives were reviewing surveillance video from the gas station and were searching for a green SUV.
Payan and Ramirez were not in police custody as of Friday afternoon. Officials issued warrants for their arrests.
