Moms Taking Charge hosts 2nd Annual Story Hour
EAST CHICAGO | Moms Taking Charge (MTC) held its '2nd Mommy & Me Story Hour' event sponsored by Target Early Childhood Reading Grant and in conjunction with Indiana Literacy Coalition "Time Out for Reading."
This event provided an opportunity for program participants and their children to listen to children stories read in English and Spanish. The Spanish stories were read by storytellers Ms. Rosa Garcia accompanied by puppeteer, Ms. Gloria Roldan both of the East Chicago Public Library and puppet, Ms Red. The English stories were read by Ms. Stephanie Parr, MTC Family Support Specialist.
The Mommy & Me Story Hour was held at East Chicago's Main Library, 2401 East Columbus Dr. All attendants received a bedtime reading package donated by Target which included pajamas, a pillow, a special individual pillowcase (provided by Bits n Pieces), a children's book and a stuffed animal to take with them to encourage bedtime reading.
Moms Taking Charge is a long-term case management program designed to assist single moms with young children and women who are pregnant, locate and access the support they need to build independent and healthy families.
MTC is a collaborative effort with Healthy East Chicago, Haven House, Salvation Army, Plazas Communitarias, East Chicago City Court and Healthvision Midwest, Inc.
Funding for this program is provided the Foundations of East Chicago.
