A task force of police officers from around Northwest Indiana swept up 23 men and women in weekend arrests in Gary, Hammond, East Chicago and Whiting, police said.
Patti Van Til, a spokeswoman for the Lake County Sheriff's Department, said 60 federal, state and county officers prowled city streets from 6 p.m. Friday to 1:30 a.m. Saturday "to look for criminal activity."
Officers arrested the 23 people on warrants, suspicion of possession of marijuana, weapons violations, traffic offenses, resisting law enforcement, failing to appear in court for previous charges, she said.
Those arrested were taken to the Lake County Jail in Crown Point, she said.
The U.S. Marshals Service, Indiana State Police, Lake County police and officers from Gary, Hammond, East Chicago, Whiting, Portage, Ogden Dunes and the Indiana University Police Department took part in the sweep, Van Til said.
